There is no Christmas without the traditional "Panettone". This cake is born around 1490 in Milan, but soon adopted throughout Italy. In Milan, tradition still is that businessmen offered a Panettone as a gift to their clients for Christmas.
There are many varieties and they can be enjoyed in many ways. Stuffed with cream, topped with various sauces, covered chocolate etc. ... and simply grilled for a delicious breakfast.
Almost as popular as the Panettone, Italians also like the Pandoro. Originally from Verona the Pandoro was created more recently for the first time, around a hundred years ago.
There is also the Panforte, small traditional sweetmeat. Panforte or literally "hard bread" was originally a tidbit of Siena, Tuscany, its popularity has spread then throughout Italy.
